Tiddler's Trip to Hospital....by Chris Gosling

I know and speak regularly on the phone to Ian Turner. I took Ian to visit David Crane at his home in Norwich about 2 years ago, it was very interesting what the two of them had to say about Norwich Kings Lynn and speedway in general through the 60's and 70's.

One fascinating story that Ian told me years ago was about a time he was in hospital. Like most riders Ian visited just about every hospital in the country at one time or another. On this occasion you may remember he was British Junior champion in 1971 and two weeks after winning the title he was badly injured at Reading crushing 2 vertebrates in his back.

Shortly after he was transferred from Reading Hospital to one in Newmarket near to his wife and family, where he had to lay perfectly still on a board for six weeks. One Saturday afternoon he was watching 'World of Sport' on the tv, horse racing from Newmarket, this jockey Taffy Thomas falls of his horse and hurts himself, ten minutes later they wheel him in and put him in a bed next to Ian ! I think they became great friends.
