WALKERVILLE - South Africa

These pictures were taken by track curator Gerald Richter when he developed the Walkerville circuit in South Africa. Gerald now works in the UK as the track guru at both Swindon and Arena Essex.

Pictures are courtesy of Graham Cooke

Hardly the most auspicious of entrances to the stadium!

Building the pits complex

From the air - looks a nice shape

Marking out the track in the field - the first earth has been removed

Literally weeks later and the place looks brilliant

Temporary stands - note the rider in gate 4 looping (extreme left of picture)

The car park was divided into cars and bikes. Bikers were encouraged to bring along their best bikes - these were then entered into a competition

Loads of dirt on the track

Action from one of the first meetings ever held at Walkerville

More action from an early meeting

Sidecars were encouraged as well, although they went round the other way

Quad events were also featured using the centre green as part of a figure of 8 track

When it rains it really rains. This was the track first thing in the morning. Believe it or not, they actually pumped all this off and got the meeting on in the evening.
