Dream Team : Anthony Williamson

I am an Ambulance driver at The Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability Putney London. Sad to say I did follow Wimbledon since I was 6 years old. I am now 54. My team is a mixed bunch but gave me lots of pleasure.

Ivan Mauger
Evan though Ivan did not seem that friendly off the track, not many people can say he was not the greatest of all time.

Bobby Dugard
I was young when Bobby rode for Wimbledon, but I can remember the way he rode. I still have a photo of Bobby and myself in a Wimbledon programme. He might not have been a big star, but the way he team rode with Trevor Hedge was the best I have seen.

Olle Nygren
Sorry, but another rider that rode for Wimbledon. Sheer class. Those who saw Olle ride must remember his white boots and the smoothness he went around the Plough Lane track.

Mark Burrows
My last Wimbledon rider. The most exciting rider I have seen. I only saw Buzz in his later years but out of every rider I have ever seen, he was the one that gave the most effort. Some of his passing was just brill. I hoped he would get a bad gate so we would see his passing of the other riders. Off the track he always had time for his fans.

Edward Kennett
You might find this a strange choice. I did not see that much of Edward, but the times I did I enjoyed the way he rode. When you follow family into a sport it is never easy. I think one day he will be right up there at the top.

Ove Fundin
He was the rider I think I remember more than most in the 60's. A hard and some people say not always a fair rider. He is in my opinion the next best to Ivan Mauger. World Champ four times, he must have something.

Ray Wilson
I liked Ray alot, my brother liked him even more. If I did not put him in my team, my brother would never forgive me. It always looked to me he loved riding for his country. Again he had a lovely style. He made it look easy. Once he rode for Wimbledon and after my brother had a word with him he seemed to let Trevor Hedge go past him to get his first maxiumum of the season. Well that is what my brother thought.

  • Rob Greatley:

"How can a Wimbledon fan leave out Ronnie Moore and Tommy Jansson? Two of the greatest riders ever to wear the famous Red and Yellow of the Dons."

  • Anthony Williamson:

"I agree with Rob Greatley about Ronnie Moore and Tommy Jannson. Both great riders. But it is my dream team. I have gone with people I enjoyed watching most."

  • Peter Williamson:

"In reply to A.Williamson's comment about Ray Wilson, I know for a fact that the race he mentions Ray Wilson did let Trevor Hedge win to get his maximum, he promised your brother that he would and he did."
