Which Craven?
By Steffen Ottinger

A friendly hello to the speedway experts!

I have a book from 1949 by Leif "Basse" Hveem (1920-1964): "On 2 Wheelsl".

In it he also writes about the European Championship on September 28, 1947 in Ostrava (Czech Republic ... in front of 40,000 spectators).

I didn't know anything about it.

As for the result, he writes: "The European Championship ended with Craven in first place and Chitty in second, with me in third and Karl Killmeyer in fourth."

Did you know about this European Championship?

The most important thing for me is which Craven was the winner ... Malcolm Craven, Gilbert Craven or Reg Craven?

Do you have a document (records, a report) about this?

Can you please help me?

(PS: I'm guessing it was Malcom ... the winner was a West Ham Hammers rider!)

  • JimHenry:

"I think the enquirer answers his own question as Malcolm Craven was the only Craven who rode for West Ham and could have performed at this time. Details of the years the various Cravens rode can be found on The Speedway Researcher web site."
